South Africa will attend a Middle East conference in Paris next month to take part in facilitating a two state solution. This emerged from a meeting between President Jacob Zuma and his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas in Pretoria.
Syrians voted in a parliamentary election in government-held areas on Wednesday. The result of the vote is expected on Thursday. The election is going ahead independently of a U.N. led peace process aimed at finding a political solution to the five-year-long war.

The Islamic State militant group Isis - based in Syria and Iraq - claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks. It said the attacks were to punish France for its involvement in the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, and for its attitude to Islam.
